  Agility Foundation Training

Agility is great fun for both owner and dog. With a little patience and a lot of positive reinforcement almost any dog can be taught how to maneuver the obstacles on an agility course. However, in order to have a winning team, a special relationship must exist between owner and dog. The purpose of this class is to establish this relationship. The 8-week course, relying on the power of the clicker, utilizes positive reinforcement to form the building blocks of teamwork necessary for winning, competition agility. Don’t know about clicker training? We will teach you. This class will build a strong working relationship between handler and dog. Students will be encouraged to maintain training logs of their progress. Dogs will be introduced to all of the agility equipment. Class size is limited to 12 dogs, with 2 instructors. The agility classes fill up quickly. Students interested in attending any of Paw Law’s agility classes will be put on a waiting list.

Agility – “Fix It” Contact and Weaves Class

The most difficult obstacles in agility are the contact obstacles and the weave poles. In this 4-week class, the only obstacles that will be utilized are the contacts and the weaves, and perhaps a jump or tunnel to increase the dog’s speed as it approaches these obstacles. The goal of this class is to create consistent handling with respect to these obstacles.

This class includes an introduction to operant training in addition to instructions on using targets for upside and downside contacts, using hoops on contacts, using the “hit it” board to reinforce contact performance, weave pole entries, weave pole exits, and speed in the weave poles. Whether you're looking for a plan to retrain a dog with problem poles or contacts or you're looking for a plan to train a new agility dog from scratch, this class is for you.

Agility – “Get Out” (working at a distance) Class.

This class is for training distance work. Distance work is a key element of success in any agility venue. While it is obviously a critical preparation for Gamblers classes, the fact is that you cannot run your dog in the upper levels of the Standard and Jumpers classes in any venue, if you and your dog are joined at the hip. The goal is to get a dog to work at a distance with comfort and reliability which only comes with experience and confidence. In this class, all exercises begin with you handling at a modest distance away from the dog, gradually adding distance over time as the dog becomes comfortable and reliable at each stage. Class size is limited to 8 dogs.
