Paw Law Dog Training offers swimming & dock diving classes for FUN & COMPETITION. We have introduction to water & swimming classes, introduction to the sport of dock diving, and refining dock diving skills for competing in Big Air, Extreme Vertical & Speed Retrieve.
Classes are held at “On Spencer’s Pond”, Paw Law’s own private lake. The Pond is located at 33 Gromer Rd. in Elgin, near the intersection of Route 59 & Irving Park Road – 10 minutes from I-90, 20 minutes from I-290.

Jan Hicks, one of the
owners of Paw Law, has been competing in Dock Diving for 6 years and has been teaching Dock Diving Classes at her home for 5 years. She has been on the Board of Directors for the Chicagoland Dock Diving Club. These are just some of her accomplishments with her own dogs:
Finnegan, Jan’s 4 year old lab was ONE of 13 dogs invited to compete at the 2009 Dock Diving World Championships in ALL THREE dock diving sports – Big Air, Speed Retrieve and Extreme Vertical.
In 2009, Finnegan won 1st Place Iron Dog at FOUR national Dock Diving Events.
So far this year, Finn has taken a 1st Place Iron Dog
at FOUR national competitions; and in June, 2010, Finn won the Iron Dog
Award at Chicagoland's Dock Diving event in Rockford.
Finnegan's Dock Diving Personal Bests are as follows:
Big Air - 25'2"
Extreme Vertical - 6'8"
Speed Retrieve - 5.87 seconds
Maggie, Jan’s 10 year old Border Collie received a special award at the 2009 Dock Diving Nationals -- Maggie was crowned the Veteran Speed Retrieve dog for Zone 4 (the Midwest region).
Maggie's Dock Diving Personal Bests are as follows:
Big Air - 17'8"
Speed Retrieve - 6.83 seconds
This year, wanting to
understand the dynamics of training a "lap dog" for Dock Diving, Jan has starting to
train & compete
with her rescue dog, Tinkerbell, a 12 pound rat terrier mix.
Don Ward,
also one of Paw Law's owners and Dock Diving instructors, started competing in
Dock Diving 3 1/2 years ago with his rescued 3 1/2 year old black lab, Huckleberry.
Huck started competing in Dock Diving when he was just under a year of age and
has proven he can excel in all 3 Dock Diving Sports

Extreme Vertical - 7'2"
Speed Retrieve - 6.656 seconds
Finally, in
2009, Don's son Donny also started competing in
the sport. He is a Junior Handler for Maggie & Tinkerbell - Proving Paw Law's
belief that Dock Diving can be a family
affair and a whole lot of FUN!
